CD Drive Dead ?

Options
Hi

My cd drive has stopped reading discs. Do I assume it is dead and needs to be replaced or could it have been knocked off track by something.

Thanks

    Right click on "my computer"

    Select manage -> Device Manager

    Click on the + to the left of "DVD/CDROM Drives"

    On the right hand side is there a red mark next to the CDROM drive?

    If yes it's a driver problem.

    Does the CD rom still turn up as a drive letter (for example D: ) but when you try to read any disk it gives an error?

    Have you checked the CDs you have tried look unscratched and clean?

    If this is two yes's then it's probably a duff drive. No one repairs them, they are about £4 new
