Health Insurance

Quick question, now I am not trying to cheat at all, just want some honest advice. Have had private medical insurance for about 6 months now and have really hurt my lower back it may be a slipped disc, pain radiating down legs etc. Problem is this was 9 weeks ago and not getting any better.

So the question is this, few years ago I had a fall down some stairs and injured my lower back, the pain was different to what it is now and that pain didn't radiate anywhere at all, but due to the fact that it was my lower back, does that mean it will be considered a pre-excisting injury. FYI I am with BUPA, any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

JC

Did you tell them at the time when you filled forms in about your accident.

If you claim on your policy they will probably look into your medical records and ask for a medical report from your GP, I suppose it will be up to doctors now whether the accident and your condition now are related really

  • I took moratorium cover, so no form to fill in! So are you basically saying it's up to my own doctor to say whether it is pre existing or not?

    Thanks

So did they not ask you for any health history

and yes, either way it will probably all be down to your doctors report (which you will probably have to pay for too)

If its anything like Income Protection cover, they will have a claims team.

THEY will look over your GP reports and not your Dr.
I suspect they will be looked at in the same way. Put your claim form in, you have nothing to lose.

I have had similar problems with my lower back, there is no harm putting a claim in, they will check your medical records and make a decision from there.

You are better off trying and them saying no than not trying at all.
