hi ive recently sold a item on ebayer (a saw £180) this item was new and sealed i bought it for my husband but he never used it and its been in the garage for around 2 years
anyway the buyer is claiming it worked on day of arrival but then he tried it again and the laser comes on but nothing from the saw
he is asking when i bought it and does it still have warranty and if it cannot be repaired at no cost to him then he will be requesting a full refund
where do i stand with this do i claim off the courier or do i ask him to send it back and will i have to pay the return postage

Why not ask him to send it back for you to look at and you can check your security markings

This is the problem with Ebay, if a dispute is raised Paypal will ask the buyer to send it back and 9/10 times side with the buyer0 -
so will i have to pay the return postage0

If you are a private seller no, its up to you
ETA : have you googled the brand to see if there is a common issue with the laser?0 -
Also you may find if he returns it there is no fault ( as in he couldn't work it ) and then you will be able to relist it0

Ebay buyers tend to be honest people, on the whole, so there is any chance that the item may not work.
If you list an item that is not brand new (just bought), but untested, you should point that out, and it will effect the price of the item.
Otherwise it's better to test the product.
Whatever action you take, contrary to some odd advice you are getting, don't treat the buyer like a scammer, because there is no indication that they are.
eBay will side with the buyer, and request that they return the item to you at their expenses.
But I think it's unfair that a buyer should lose out if an item does not work, particularly if the seller did not test it.
What I would do is to ask to return, and if the item does not work, would refund return postage.0 -
thanks go cat i must admit its put me off selling in the future just thought it would be a good idea to have a good clearout
i normally only sell my daughters clothes when they have outgrown them

It's up to you, if the item has a genuine fault then although you don't have to its only fair that the buyer is not out of pocket through no fault of his own.0

hi UPDATE the buyer has sent the saw back to me my partner has just checked it over he says it looks like it has been misused parts have been damaged and 2 screws have been removed and the stickers have been pulled up where the screws are supposed to go so i know these have been removed my partner thinks the buyer probably didnt even read the intructions
i need to know what to do know he is expecting a full refund
my partner says it looks liked he hasnt squared the blade up first aslo ive just checked his previous feedback and days after buying mine
he has bought a new blade for the same type of saw which i sold him0 -
Have you emailed the buyer to see what he has got to say about the condition of the item ?
If it has gone to dispute you may want to ring ebay/ paypal to see what they have to say as it is not in the condition you sent it or by all accounts resaleable
Good luck0
