Hi,
I was with Natwest for about 10yrs but they started really !!!!!!ing me about with bank charges so I called them last March, asked them to cancel all of my direct debits and everything like that with the intention of not using the account again as I was just about to go travelling anyway and had opened a new one with Barclays.
I got back not long ago and have found out that a debt collection agency were after me as whoever I spoke to didn't cancel my direct debits so it has been spiralling since March 2005! Very worried. The lady on the phone at Natwest said that they will send my statements to me and if it is their fault they will wipe my account clean.
But how likely is it that they will admit it's a fault of theirs?
Please, any advice would be great as am losing sleep over this.
Thanks

i am asuming you don't have any written confirmation. Perhaps the telephone call was recorded and you could ask them to check providing you have the date and approx time you called them. Hopefully the clerk would have put something in the notes that will prove it. Please check your credit file as they may also have defaulted you. They may use the excuse that you should have cancelled the DD's with the companies too. If all else fails you can claim back all charges and include getting the default removed0

No unfortunately i didn't think that there would be a problem and i have absolutely no idea of the date and time which in hindsight is stupid!0
