Just thought I'd let everyone know that we got Tara back from Elysian Fields, we actually went for the generic dog urn and it is lovely.

The urn is a lot bigger than we thought but it's very discrete - more like an ornament than an urn. It has her name on the collar and came with a certificate saying which day she was cremated and it was all beautifully presented.

I would definitely recommend them for anyone looking for a pet cremation.

Sorry for your loss Jen. I know how dreadful it feels.

I've seen an ad for a company that puts some of your pet's ashes into a piece of jewellery you can wear round your neck on a chain, or as a ring. Can't remember the name of it but I do think it's a lovely way to keep your pet's ashes close to you.

I wish I could have done it when my old dog had to be PTS.

Im so sorry for your loss xxx
  • we had Nell cremated & she was returned to us in a lovely terracotta urn with a dried flower arrangement on top. She now has her own corner of one of the shelves on the bookcase. Her urn, my little figurine of a Black & White Springer & my two favourite photos of her. I see her & speak to her everyday. It does get easier with time, but I still miss her hugely & its only now, 8 months on, that I am considering another dog but still unsure.

My little dog was fifteen and due to a stroke we decided to have her put to sleep. It broke my heart. Iv had her cremated and still have her remains in a wooden casket with her name on top. My last dog is now fourteen and Im dreading when that day arrives although he still runs around like a puppy at the present time.

Sorry for your loss. I always read this when I think of a long lost pet. Lots of other MSE people will recognise it:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
