Hotpoint washing machine design fault
I bought a new washing machine on the 5th Feb 2011 and within 5 weeks it was broken.
As it came with 1 years warranty I thought that all would be fine – how wrong I was !
I called Hotpoint and explained the problem they then requested my address, phone number, email and mobile number and was then told that it would cost ME to have it repaired by one of their engineers.
I will explain the problem but first I must say that after doing some research on the internet I found hundreds of people with the same problem.
The problem is with regard to the paddle lifters, that is the plastic raised strips on the inside of the drum there to stop the clothes sticking to the drum and causes the clothes to “tumble”.
They are made from plastic with clips underneath which slide into slots in the stainless steel drum and are secured in place with a lifted tab. The problem here is that the plastic is quite brittle and the slots punched in the drum have a sharp burr on the edge of the slots and as these paddles are a slightly loose fit they gradually chip away at the plastic paddle until there is total failure. I would guess that Hotpoint know this and it must be a huge problem for them so they say that it is not covered by warranty as it must be our clothes/buttons/coins that are causing the problem. In all the years of washing clothes for our family of five we have never had this problem, yet within five weeks of owning this new machine it is broken and close examination of the parts I could soon see the problem and cause.
We have always used Hotpoint machines but do not trust them any more and I believe that other people should be warned of this problem as it is going to be an ongoing and expensive job to replace these paddles every 5 weeks.
Anyone got a resolution on this issue ????

Just bought a new washing machine and was advised not to buy hotpoint any more.
As for your issues, the item is less than six months old, therefor shop you bought said off are liable. You do not have to prove a fault.
Note shop may offer a refund, repair or replacement though0 -
Pops on bloody iPad, rights are under the Sale of Goods Act0

Right, I had it with the iPads spell checker0

Freddie, you can turn the spellcheck off!
And yes, the shop is liable. Forget contacting hotpoint. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -

Hotpoint coming out on Friday !!
Wrote a letter to consumer direct, the retailer and Hotpoint themselves and had a quick response from them all (consumer direct and the retailer both contacted Hotpoint) and the result is that they are coming out on Friday, just hope that we do not have to go through all this again in five weeks time.
Thanks for the replies0 -

I have the same problem too, mine have all gone 4 times now and its not even that i am over loading the washing machine i am only putting half loads in. I found a local company on Ebay who i now buy the lifters fom for £12 for 3 but for this to be happening every 6 weeks its madness!!!
Im worried about the pieces that are breaking off as they have got to be doing some damage to the machine with still being somewhere in there.
I called Hotpoint again today to complain and they said that i would have to pay £120 for an engineer to come out and have a look! My warrenty ran out in January. This is when they 1st started breaking!! I too wish that i had read all the reviews on this washing machine and might have come across this problem i wouldnt have purchased it!!!
and as to checking your pokets for change i got told this too.... excuses!!!!!0 -
