In-car clock.......

Yeah, my car's so poverty spec it doesn't even have a clock on the dash - and it's driving me insane.

Anyone know where I can pick up such a thing cheaply, preferably backlit and powered by 12V instead of battery powered ?. Something I can tuck away neatly that won't look out of place would be nice too.

  • Does the next Spec up not have a clock as standard?...... You'll often find all the plugs for the extras all ready in/on the loom of the el'cheapo models.
  • Hi,

has in got a cigarette lighter, maybe this will do.

Next spec up has the clock as part of the rev counter so I'd need to change the instrument dials. Not a good idea for warranty purposes I'd bet.

frugalmacdugal - that looks like it'd do the job

I went MSE. I stuck an old watch on the dash with blu-tac. Torch in the door pocket to see it at night.

Surely you can find something suitable in Maplin.

Otherwise just get a satnav, they have a clock diaplay, that is what I have been doing in a semi decommisioned FRU recently, they have removed everything, clock, satnav, MDT, stereo, central display (its an Astra so had clock in middle of dash), my little dash mount satnav has been really handy, though I am certain Maplin can sort you out.

All very well, but have you ever tried to check the time whilst dogging with a watch, you have to turn the interior light on!!

Note I am not suggesting Kilty is going dogging:D:A:D

I wish my cars didn't have clocks. I have one in the Nissan and two in the Mondeo as standard, a clock in the aftermarket radio in the Nissan, a clock in the satnav app for my phone, a clock on my Origin B2 speed camera thingy,, though fortunately that one can be disabled.

It winds me up if they don't all display the same time and change at exactly the same time. Just to be even more annoying, only the phone one takes BST into account.

Does the radio not have a clock?

This has been a problem with the Focus -- there is no clock on the dashboard but there was one on the original 6000CD stereo.

As the Picanto has an aftermarket stereo fitted as standard it might just be a case of finding out how to make the display show the time all the time, as I have now done on the Sony head unit I replaced the (horrible) 6000CD unit with.

Alternatively if that doesn't work, treat yourself to an upgraded radio and get a clock with that :)
