I'm glad you've been warned about potential scammers hunny - I saw the first line and my first thought was oh no not again!
I know you may not have any money to send him but I've read stories where the woman remortgaged their home and sent the person concerned the money.
Tell him you're as poor as a church mouse and live in rented acccommodation and see if you hear from him again.2014 Target;

i've been emailing and texting a soldier for over 6 months now, he is in the uk army, tho originally from africa, his brother and sil live at the end of my street. he knows i dont have much money and wouldnt dream of asking for any, why would he, he gets paid being in the army and gets cheap accomodation including all meals.
be careful, but also they are not all scammersloves to knit and crochet for others0 -
A very dear friend of mine almost got caught by one of these scammers hence my original warning. She was approached via an online dating site. Within days he was very full on, saying he'd fallen head over heels for her and that as soon as possible they would be married. He told her that he was a widower with two small children. Within a week he'd gone working overseas and the children were in a boarding school, then he said he'd had an accident and needed money for help with medical bills.
My friend rang me most concerned as to how she could help him. I said under no circumstances was she to send money, if he was that desperate he could contact the embassy. He then came back with some nonsense about how his parents had told him never to trust the embassy and she was the only one he could turn to.
The next thing I know he's after bank account details and a copy of her passport to prove that she was who she said she was :eek: I googled romance scams and came across loads of other woman that had been duped, some with very similar stories and the same photo that he's sent her :eek:
So, the moral of the story is, keep your wits about you at all times. Hopefully there is a fantastic love story at the end of the tale for you, fingers crossed

I'd like to know which dating sites these scammers are coming up on, I'd email one just for the fun of it!!Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind.They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0

Maybe this is too simple, but I can't see any problem with emailing or contacting in some way, the guys army base or whatever the military authorities in the US and just ask them to confirm with the soldier, that he is who he says he is.
I would think they would do it. But I'm not sure. Find out what troop or whatever they call it, he is in.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I knew loads of squaddies way back when. I know quite a few now. Out on the lash, get your leg over. Girl here, girl there. Internet dating just sets up future conquests without the !!!!!!!! of buying them drinks whilst trying to get into their knickers.0

""i'm Freddy frank .. 40years old, single(widower)with a lovely Son of 15years old.......i work as an Estate Contractor....i'm presently in Nigeria working on a Big project..... i am from Oxnard, California in united state .......I am not searching for someone to "date" and maybe have sex with for a couple of times or over a weekend. I seek a "best friend" and a"passionate lover" with whom I will be completely and madly in love with - long term. I don't ever sleep around - never have and I never will. Sexual intimacy is sacred and special with me. I only am physically intimate with my lover "inside" a committed and monogamous relationship. Anything less is not accepted ...i don't have web cam or do any internet show.coz my work is very tight and i have a little time.i'm new to internet stuff... so if you don't mind what you ready about me maybe we should chat on yahoo messenger for a better conversation...""
Funnily enough this chaps wife had also died in a car crash....Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind.They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0 -

Ummm, does sound like a scam. Have an open mind about it but just be aware that these scams are going on.
I suppose the saying 'once bitten twice as shy' is apt here.0
