We currently have K9 web protection on main PC and laptop. It has corrupted on laptop (or password changed by very IT savvy DS who knows far more than I do).

Just wondered if anyone can recommend any others.

Unfortunately, as with most schools nowadays, he does need to use a computer for homework so I cannot watch him the whole time.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are quite strict on what he is allowed to access (e.g. not allowed on social sites which many of his friends are - and he does know he will be allowed to do this when he is a bit older.)

Norton Online Family is great and free! I use it for my step son, you can control what sites they can visit, and block specific websites individually. It also has options to set up curfews eg internet can only be accessed between 10am and 10pm after 10pm it will lock down the computer. You can also set time limits as well so for example if you only want him using the pc for 6 hours you can set it so it locks down the computer after 6 hours.

Another good feature is that it logs what sites he visits, what is searched for and if you wanted it to it will log instant messaging. Its worth checking out.

Edited to add if he has his own login on the laptop or pc you can set it to only monitor that account

The instructions for defeating K9 have been on the net for quite a while, the fact it was so easy to defeat (and the fact it applies the same rules to ALL users) was enough for us to switch to something a tad more secure.
For those that are interested, all you have to do is navigate to the Windows\System32\Drivers folder and move a file called bckd.sys to another part of the hard drive.
Restart the PC and K9 is no longer working.

    Net Nanny gets good reviews.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.

We did have Norton a few years ago but will have another look at it in case it has changed.

My OH decided very late last night to install a 14 day trial of Net Nanny so we'll see how it goes.

create a user account for him, password protect your own. install microsoft family safety (free). So far my kids haven't found a way around it, though I'm sure they just haven't looked hard enough :D
