31.5 hr per fortnight contract?

Hello,
I want to apply for a job but its advertised as 31.5 hrs a fortnight contract, 9 hrs one week and 22 hrs the next. However the hrs are
930-230 thurs and fri (week one)
930-230 mon, tue, wed, sat (week two)
so basically I guess you get half an hour unpaid lunch break. Problem is I need 16 hrs a week, so could I include the lunch break in working hrs and it is ok to say that the job is 16 hrs a week, when its on this shift pattern?
Thank you.

No, sorry, that would be incorrect.

Why do you need 16 hours a week?0

Working tax credits-16 hours per week minimum??
Could you get another job-even an hour's cleaning-to make up the time?import this0 -
Yes, you can use hours from a number of jobs.
Can you not ask the employer to increase to 1 more hour, it seems silly advertising a job for these hours or are they being tactical so as to ensure single parents or couples with chilfren don't apply (just a thought)
If you are renting you would receive extra help with rent/council tax to make up for the expected loss of wtc.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
I have not applied yet, I am just filling in the form, I think I will have to call them up. The job is aimed at mums due to the hrs and nature of the job :-)
So if it was 32 hrs a fortnight could I say that its 16 hrs a week for TC purposes?Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0 -
yes if it was 32hours you could0

Yes, you work out your average over a certain period, maybe 4,6,or 8 weeks so this would be fine.
I wish you well on your application but do ring them up and enquire about possibility of increased hours.
You legally have to take a lunch break whether paid or not.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -

I beg to differ as the hours cited actually work against those who depend on tax credits. Therefore, it doesn't seem particularly mum friendly to me as the employer should know about tax credit thresholds.0 -
OP: what is the hourly rate for the job? Is it possible the hours are designed to come in under the employers NICs threshold of £110 per week?0
