Another victim of a foreign truck

I was just about to say this. It should be made an offence not to have these additional mirrors, and the police should be able to PG9 any lorry without. Like, erm, France, where I believe you're hit with on the spot fines (as with every motoring offence over there) if a UK truck doesn't have.
Wouldn't be surprised if their driving test was easier, not that I have any factual idea though...I suppose I will be berated for this: I find that HGV drivers from Eastern Europe are the worst HGV drivers. There seems to be a laissez-faire attitude and arrogance in that they don't care what they do or the consequences.0 -
The European Commission has proposed a Directive on cross-border enforcement in the field of road safety. Offences covered by the Directive would include the four "big killers" causing 75% of road fatalities: speeding, running red lights, failure to use seatbelts and drink driving. EU member countries would have mutual access to each others' vehicle registration data.
The Commission agrees with some of the posters on this forum: that it is discriminatory that local residents are penalised while those from another EU country can escape prosecution. Legislation could become law in member states by 2013.

As mentioned above, chasing overseas drivers is part of the remit of the MIB, either via their insurance company or as untraced drivers.
No-one need lose money, just contact the MIB0 -
MIB only works for uninsured losses, so if you have fully comprehensive insurance then the MIB wont help.0

Part of the MIB's remit is to assist in accidents with foreign drivers

nope, I'm pretty sure there is nothing in their rules that require you to claim on your own insurance.
If you do claim on your own insurance your insurance can't then recover their costs from the MIB but you can recover any other uninsured losses0
