Will I need a rent book if claiming HB?

I may be needing to claim HB in the forseeable future and have read the council will need to see my rent book as well as bank statements & copy of the tenancy agreement. Is this true as we have no rent book but can provide the rest.
It is a normal tenancy with a private LL?

You should have a rent book, why dont you have one.
This is the third place I have rented in recent years and never been offered one. In fact I never knew I needed one? Is it obligatory for LL's and/or LA's as two previous places were with long established and reputable LA's.
If it obligatory? Do you know of any web sites that I could look at as it will be embarressing to ask my priave LL for one as they will want to know why and I would rather not say.0 -
A rent book is not required. Proof of rent passing in the form of bank statements and a tenancy agreement will be fine.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I have googled and got the impression the LL must supply one if asked but I am not looking to have onbe. I have fantastic LL's and they may see a request as a question of their character?0 -
No you definitely don't need a rent book to put a claim in for HB/LHA. As long as you can prove your identity and have a Tenancy Agreement, the LA will be happy.0

The only time a rent book is required is when rent is due weekly (and then it's law that it's provided). (E&W).Inside this body lays one of a skinny woman
but I can usually shut her up with chocolate!
When I thank a post in a thread I've not posted in,
it means that I agree with that post and have nothing further to add.
