Anyone with Vetsmedicover Insurance?

Hi,
I have two dogs with VetsMediCover and Freddie's came up for renewal in July at a premium of £32 a month. That was quite an increase and I started shopping around. Last week I received a letter saying that Hugo's renewal was only £28 a month. They have actually had a reduction on their premium! Hope they keep it there. It's a good price for lifetime cover!0 -
Just a word to anyone looking at this company - please check other companies.
Both my cats & dog are insured with well known good companies with good levels of cover and I don't pay anything near the amount VM are asking for!
Cats - just moved & £12.68 (total for both!) with 7K of cover
Dog - £23.50 & £10k of cover
Please at least do a couple of comparisons before rushing in - I am in no way commenting on their service / payment of claims, just the cost may not always be the best value for everyone.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!0 -
hi can anyone shed any light on this :
im with vets medicover and for last 2 years no increase....it was always on theire website ONE price for all ...the only time your premiuns will increase is if they increase for everyone , I even called them when I took the policy out to double check this .
lo and behold its been removed from the website and premium doubled.
how can they do this ? do I have a case to complain to the ombudsman ??0 -
right need help here....ive investigated ..lots of complaints on this:
they have completely changed the policy .
when I took it out it was one price for all dogs apart from a select few on a list , and they guaranteed no rise in premiums unless they rise with inflation i.e same price for everyone.
this is the policy I signed and took out ,
now they have change it so all the dogs are different prices depending on what breed you have , they have compleley misold this ...I took it out knowing everyone paid the same price and premiums would only ever rise with inflation....its insurance fraud surley ? I feel the ombudsam will have a field day ?? im certainly taking it to them....is what they are doing not illegal ????steve0 -
I looked long and hard for insurance when I got my rescue dog who was 6 and this seemed really good, insured for life etc. I did expect a small rise in premiums. The first year it was £21.00, the following year £28.00, (I didn't mind this) this year £45.00 with a change in conditions that for any dog over the age of 7 you will have to pay 20% of the fees plus the normal 95.00 excess.
Beware - if you decide to cancel this policy you have to send a recorded delivery letter to I guess their head office, emails are not accepted.
I am now looking for another pet insurer or maybe I will just save every month towards any potential vet bills0 -
I have been with Vets Medicover since Aug 2012 and my newf was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. Since then she has had a lot of medicine, hydrotherapy (they do cover supplementary/alternative treatments) and one hip operation, she is currently undergoing a second hip op. They have been very good and prompt in paying back all costs and I had just to pay the initial £100 myself. The only thing is you do have to pay for everything upfront yourself before being reimbursed and after the first op my premium went up from about £46 a month (which is very good for a large breed in London) to £75 so it did go up a lot but without it it could have been very difficult to afford the treatments.
They used to have three fixed categories and price did not vary according to location/postcode but I don't know if they still do this as if you google them now they seem to have changed what was an excellent policy. Maybe they had too many claims I don't know, but they are good paying out once they have accepted you.
They used to be with White Horse, who were good, and have changed who they work with but the new ones seem to be good so far too. Hope this helps.0 -
:jMy boxer girl is with Vetsmedicover and I have made several claims and all were paid in days. I can't fault them.:j0

I suspect this is down to your vet, Vetsmedicover were happy to pay my vet direct. My girl had a £600 operation and I didn't pay a thing ( apart from the premiums!).0 -

I never heard of insurance company having a cover of 7 k per condition per year to be honest. It is normally 7 k per year or 7 k per condition. One or the other.
I doubt anyone covers 7k per condition per year.
Good you gone with Axa though, lots of good reviews.
The new one may turn up good but at this point nobody can tell as they have not been around long enough.
Animal Friends SOUNDED great and then a lot of people fell for it and went through a lot of grief with claims refused etc0 -
also - direct claims depends on vets accepting them and they normally only agree for those with known, reputable insurers
i am always able to do direct claim (when vet claims directly from insurance and I only pay the excess up front myself) - my lot are with PetPlan and Argos Platinum and my vet accepts both as direct claims - they do not accept quote a few other, new companies as they say they have no history/experience with them so they expect clients to pay themselves up front and then claim refunds from their insurance0
