Dishwasher Advice

Hi

I have just bought a Dishwasher. I don't understand about turning the water tap off. It says in the booklet that it recommends you turn the water tap off when it has finished a cycle and when not in use but then if I did that I wouldn't be able to use the washing machine or taps will I? I know it may be a stupid question but how do I get water if the tap is turned off?

:o

It says that in my washing machine instruction manual and I hardly ever do it! They probably have to put it in there to cover their backs if anything goes wrong. I only turn mine off if I'm going away for a period of time.

I agree with the previous commenter. I never turn either my washing machine or dishwasher off. In the case of the former, I'd have to extract the beast from a small space, to do it. It's just the usual backside-covering by manufacturers scared of being sued.

They're recommending you turn off the water supply to the dishwasher, not to the whole kitchen.

They're assuming that the water supply to the dishwasher has its own shut-off valve, as it should. Whoever provided the plumbing to the washing machine and dishwasher should have installed separate valves for each.

It'e entirely dependant on how it's plumbed in.
Most equipment will normally have its own stop tap. It's risky if they don't, because if one machine fails, you have to turn off all the supply connections.
What happens if your diswasher has to go away for repair?

OK, now you know that you need to specify to the plumber before he starts work that the dishwasher should have a separate shutoff valve from the washing machine.

Happy is she who can precisely instruct a plumber.
