Credit card issue with insurance company

My Dad has an issue which I hoped someone could advise on.
He paid his partners car insurance over a year ago £400ish on his credit card. They split recently. He then noticed the other day that the insurance company had automatically renewed it and taken another £400 for her insurance.
Does he have any right to get the money back? He did not receive any letters asking about renewal etc that he can recall
She is refusing to pay him cos she was only after his money anyway, but that's another story!
I imagine he would have authorised it originally but surely they would ask him to reauthorise such a large amount?
Thanks

Thanks.
I'm not sure he authorised it the first time to be.honest. She has been raping his card for all sorts and he has only realised now .
Guess it would depend on how it was booked originally and I doubt he will remember.0 -
The policyholder will have received a renewal notice explaining what payment method would be used to automatically renew the policy.
It is of dubious legality to receive services paid for by another without their consent.
Why not write to the insurance company explaining that the policyholder did not have his permission to use his card for payment of the renewal policy, and asking them to cancel the remainder of the policy and refund the original payment method (i.e. his card).
Insurance companies can be quite strict about who pays for policies. It may be that the policyholder has broken the terms by using someone else's card to pay, and that they will be happy to cancel it in these circumstances. There's no harm in trying. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.

I will certainly suggest that to him. Would it be worth trying the credit card company as well?0 -
Contacting the insurer is a good idea, but i fail to see what the cc has done wrong if a CPA was authoried,if it wasnt then he should contact them as well0

Could always contact the credit card company and say he never authorised the transaction and to cancel it0
