It seems MBNA have already found a way to deter people from doing this. They are asking for a £180 charge for a copy of of the last 6 years of statements. Is this legal?

Make it clear that you are making the request under the Data Protection Act. Warn them, if they don't comply you will report them to the Data Commissioner and if necessary ask the court to enforce the act.0
