Hi all,
I would like advice and suggestions for my little query...
I am moving the end of April from one studio flat to another. I don't have big furniture, mainly just fabric and books, etc. Roughly looking at a dozen or so boxes.
I would like to move myself, to save money, however, I don't drive. Can anyone suggest any other solutions, bar forking out for a man with a van?
One thing i forgot to mention, the moving distance is a 10 min car drive/20 min walk.
Anything would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Get a willing friend or family member with a driving license to help? Either hire a van for them to drive or use their car if there isn't much stuff. It may cost you a few beers, but it would be cheaper.
If you hire a van I've found that hiring it on a weekday is much cheaper as you don't have to fork out for 2 days hire over the weekend.0 -
Driving lessons and test?
Borrow your neighbour's licence to use to hire a van?
Attach 4 wheels to a pallet, a rope to the front, and pull everything?
Borrow a donkey?0 -
See if you can find a friend/relative or work colleague that might be willing to drive for a couple of hours. That is really the only option.0

Thanks for you replies - gotta get me a donkey!0

Some taxi firms have large people carriers or there may be a local courier firm that has small vans. If it's really 12 boxes then they might be able to help you.0

A man with a van may work out cheaper than getting someone else to hire a van, plus you have an extra pair of hands and they will carry all the really heavy stuff for you. When I moved, I moved all the stuff I could myself in the car and got a Polish man with a van who was extremely cheap and a really decent bloke. He did two 20 mile round trips for £35 and total removal time took around 3 hours. You can't complain at that price.0

Man and van charged us £70 to drive 50 miles to load and collect a vanful and to deliver 60 miles away. Best value we have had in years!0

when we moved we literary took half a van load to our new house and skipped the rest and bought new.But beware it cost us over 15k to refurnish the house..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
A dozen or so boxes will fit in a cab firms people carrier. Just like the Xmas shopping does
.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0
