This happened a couple of years ago where I live http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/tayside_and_central/7262696.stm you will find out quick enough who owns it and what action they will take if you go to the papers. In the case near me the dog died, yours has been very lucky.

  • I would be tempted to drop a large lump of metal straight on to the bare wires. This will either trip a breaker somewhere or blow a transformer, both of which will render the dangerous wires safe. (then again, I am an electrical engineer and don't mind playing about with this sort of thing.

This sounds more like a telecomms cabinet. If it is, then it's either 100v AC (ringing current) or 50V DC (line current). So luckily not really dangerous except if the dog had a weak heart.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Phew if it only affects Children then I am ok! ;)
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

Given councils emphasis on Health and Safety (H&S) I would have expected this to be sorted in both an expedient and professional manner.

    Shocking, absolutely shocking....

    ... :)

I went past it today on my way into town and slowed down to look at it. It is a thick RED cable with a brass connector on the end of it into which the stripped end of the wire has been screwed.

I didn't get a chance to test it for voltage but may be able to tomorrow as I have Monday off work.

I will take a photo of it.

I am really concerned about this and if it IS still live then my Council has a bit of explaining to do.

I will report back on here tomorrow!

Yeah, thinking about it, I'm sure I could get a bit of compesation out of it. The dog is fine but I think I can train her to feign emotional stress to a no-win no-fee solicitor ( I AM joking by the way before anybody pipes up about it!!)

Dangerous overhead cables were reported to the council near me, they did f all, result is a young lad who is now an amputee with numerous burn scars and years of skin grafts ahead of him cos on his way fishing the electricity arked to the rod he was carrying. Then the council decided to mend it.

If it's part of the electricity network the Council have NO responsibility for it (nor right to work on it!)
  • Contactted the Jonathan Vernon Smith programme on three counties radio this evening. Went out tonight, tested with a volt stick and, yep, still live!

Listen out on the radio tomorrow!
