    afraid she entered what was probably an 18th month contract , they will chase for the debt if its not paid

    Ending your BT Vision subscription
    1. You may end your subscription to a viewing pack/bundle at any time, but if you do, you may need to pay a charge depending on the minimum period that you agreed to take that subscription for:
    1. For subscriptions with a 12, 18 or 24 month minimum period, if you end your subscription within the minimum period you will have to pay a single charge as compensation to us for ending it early. This charge will not be subject to VAT. You will not have to pay this charge if you are ending the service because you are moving home and we are unable to provide the service at your new address. The applicable charges are set out on www.bt.com/termcharges and/or the Tariff Guide.
    2. For subscriptions with a 1 month minimum period, if you end your subscription within the first month, the full charge for that month will apply. If you end your subscription at any other time, we will credit you the pro rata amount of your subscription charge for the remainder of that month;

    She moved, BT didn't.

    Hence she broke the contract.

    Advise her to try to negotiate (BT not being able to provide the service could be simply because she hasn't got a suitable terrestrial aerial for Freeview - she may be able to overcome that for less than £400).

    Refusing to pay will simply trash her credit report for years to come.
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    It's worth trying to negotiate, but the normal rule is that you can move house with it. I took it on the strict agreement that I'd be able to move with it, so I'd be mightily annoyed if they said they couldn't provide it!

    Is she picking up a decent freeview signal at all? If the aerial simply isn't good enough then it definitely won't be BTs fault. She'll have to upgrade to help them install it.

    then maybe the people who put up the aerial should come back and do a better job ???

    very few places in the UK can not get a freeview signal if the correct aerial and alignment is used (maybe they used a low/medium gain aerial rather than a high gain)
