As yet, Japan hasn't requested financial aid - their requests have been for search & rescue expertise, victim identification etc so at the moment there's no DEC appeal.Despite the name, I'm actually a laydee!0

Is DEC the best way to donate to Japan right now?The British red cross are running an appeal on behalf of the Japanese.
As of right now, I cannot find one registered British Charity who can guarantee donations will be made to the people of Japan, which is disgraceful.0 -
Apparently you can donate via iTunes.

Red Cross appeal -
http://www.redcross.org.uk/Donate-Now/Make-a-single-donation/Japan-Tsunami-Appeal
money goes to Japanese Red Cross except
"In the event that we receive more donations to the Japan Tsunami Appeal than the Japanese Red Cross and International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement can reasonably and efficiently spend, any surplus funds will be used to help us prepare for and respond to humanitarian disasters both here in the UK and overseas"
Save The Children
http://www.savethechildren.org.uk/en/japan-earthquake-and-tsunami-appeal.htmWe have launched an appeal to help families affected by the devastating Japanese earthquake and tsunami. We have a team in Japan and are responding to the needs of children.
World Vision
https://www.worldvision.org.uk/server.php?show=nav.3001&giftId=47World Vision is working to distribute immediate relief supplies to those left homeless, most critically babies and small children. We are planning to help children separated from their parents, by opening ‘Child Friendly Spaces’ where they can be safe. Our colleagues are saying that people in many evacuation sites do not have enough food, and need more blankets to cope with the harsh winter season.
Google's Japan crisis page lets you donate directly to the Japanese Red Cross, International Medical Corps, Unicef & Save the Children (needs a Google Checkout account and/or a Visa/Mastercard)
http://www.google.com/crisisresponse/japanquake2011.htmlThis page is being updated continuously to provide the latest information about this crisis, resources for those affected, and ways to contribute to relief efforts in Japan.
Oxfam is taking paypal (and credit card) donations that'll go via Oxfam Japan to local organisations helping mothers/women and non-Japanese speakers who are affected.

Ocado Japan Appeal via justgiving
http://www.justgiving.com/ocado... I have spoken to many family members and friends living in Japan. They have recommended that the best way to help is to make a donation via Mercy Corps to Peace Winds Japan, a local Tokyo-based NGO. We have pledged to match the first £20,000 of donations made by our team and customers. If you can, please claim GiftAid on your contribution so even more money goes directly to help the people of Japan.
Shelterbox are currently helping in Japan but " is unable to accept time or location specific donations" - money/boxes'll go to what ever disaster needs them the most at the time probably.
