Dove shower gels, they do a 'golden' looking one, organza perfume has a gold top (not sure how much it is though), Terry's all gold chocs?, you could buy a nice big bar of choc ( e.g. dairymilk or whatever) take the old wrapper of & wrap in gold foil or cellophane & a gold ribbon?
ohh you could make some truffles & dush in edible gold dust?, sweeties from thorntons?
Gold eyeshadow (sounds garish but is actually quite subtle on), No7 used to do a 'gold' nail varnish (again not as garish as it may sound)

That's reminded me that there is a radox bath foam that is a gorgeous pearly gold colour, its often bogof or 3 for 2 in boots.

Don't want to put a dampner on this but does your friend like gold? If you are going to go down the route of gold coloured picture frames, glasses, jewelery then you need to be sure.
When I touched 50 [in July] I would have loved the idea that someone had gone to so much bother for me but would not have been able to use anything with gold on it...I hate gold!
Things wrapped in gold paper would have been fine though
