Perhaps someone with a business can answer this....
Why are Solo and Electron cards less accepted (petrol stations and the like)
Surely if a Solo card dials through to get an answer there and then and a Debit (Visa & Maestro) do not then it should be the other way round no?
This would help with any frauds i imagineNothing's free.....but we'll see what we can do!0 -
ok, bit of info for you.
every retailer that accepts credit and debit cards is set a 'floor limit' for these types of transactions. Dependant on how they accept transactions and what type of trade they are the limit can range from '0' up to a couple of hundred pounds. Basically the floor limit is the amount up to the point that a retailer has to get authorisation for a transaction.
I can not beleive the retailer you have mentioned would be set such a high limit, and therefore are breaking the terms of thier agreement with the card company / bank , so they will be able to chargeback the transaction back to the retailer and the retialer will be liable for that amount.
So either the bank didnt cancel your card, and valid authorisation was given to the retailer ( not your problem, bank should have actioned your request)
Or Bank did block card, and retialer didnt attempt to obtain authorisation ( again, not your problem, bank will chargeback retailer - they are liable).
if the bank had blocked your card, and the retailer attempted authorisation, then it definately would be declined ( unless of course the authorisation system was down at the time of the transaction - this does happen, very occasionally, but thats very unlikely to be the the case)
hope that helps you a bit !0 -

My understanding is that outlets have to veirfy there are funds in the purchasers account before accepting a solo/electron card as users of these cards cannot go overdrawn.
I further understand that many Petrol Filing stations have no facility to perform the necessary checks on a purchasers account and so do not accept Electron/Solo cards.
It seems worrying that other posters are saying that users of these cards can go overdrawn because many outlets do not do the necessary checks.0 -

agreed but by the same token its the account holders responsibility to know they have enough funds in their account before they ask the retailer to complete the transaction.
