PVA before filling cracks?

(I posted this query in another thread but it was missed so I thought I'd post it as a standalone query, rather than continue to hijack someone else's thread.)
I have some cracks in walls which will need to be polyfilla'd / filled before I redecorate. A builder recommended that I painted the cracks with PVA before applying the filler, so as to aid bonding of the filler to the crack.
Is this going to cause problems when I then paint over the crack? I anticipate that, even with the best will in the world, some of the PVA will end up on the wall either side of the crack, and posts on the original thread said that painting over PVA would cause problems in the future.

No need for PVA just make sure the filler is quite wet when you fill the cracks,If there deep will need 2 fills anyway0
