hi guys and gals, please help.
When cooking a frozen pie (meat filled), how do you stop the top crust from going crunchy whilst it cooks?
I have 2 individual pies that state to cook in the oven at gas 4 for 50 min.
I', 30 mins in and the top is getting crispy.

I dont have a microwave- no room and only ever warmed baked beans in it, only to burn our mouths.
i think next time cook for longer and at a lower temp.0 -
Why wouldn't you want a crispy top? As long as it isn't burnt that is.
You could try painting the top with something wet, like milk or water before and during the cooking time, or using a water spray to keep spritzing in the over as it cooks.
The other option is to cook longer on a lower heat at the bottom of the oven and covered as the other posters have said. But at the end of the day pastry is supposed to go crispy on the edges and the top. Perhaps reducing the fat content of the pastry could help (if they are homemade) as it is the fat that makes pastry "short" so to speak.

Do they have to be cooked from frozen? Can you not defrost them first and then cook them for a shorter time?"On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0

I cook mine until the top is brown enough then turn them upside sown on a baking tray so that the bottom of the pies are not soggy0

It was a last minute descision to have them - so I'm afraid they did have to be cooked from frozen, i think that if they have to be cooked again like that then I will cook them at a lower temperature lower down in the oven.
Thanks for your replies and advice guys.0
