It's fine if us MSE'ers want to extract 'consumer revenge' on companies, and do our best to get bargains, etc. But when the self-same people go all out to screw over their fellow individuals, (i.e. buying tickets from a facility designed for fans, then touting them on at a vast profit) I can't help feeling there's a bit of hypocrisy going on.
By all means, have a go at the big corporations. But last time I checked, MSE had nothing to do with this 'I'm alright Jack' attitude to other consumers.
Which was the point I was making this morning. And no, I haven't snitched anyone up to the official site, I'm not that petty.

there are loads of people selling now.......
people sell before they have the tixs then spend the next 6 months obtaining them whilst the money earns interest0 -

Fair enough, but I stopped using the excuse, "Well, other people are doing it," many years ago. If I don't agree with something, I just won't do it. The number of other people doing something doesn't necessarily make it right, IMO.
Think we'll need to agree to disagree - as I said earlier, I'm sure you started this thread with the best of intentions. But there were some fairly hefty warnings on the official site about not posting the link publicly. I hope it's just your forum membership that's gone west, I don't think for one minute they'll have cancelled your ticket purchase.

Tickets are merely supply and demand like any other commodity.
Obviously the band members of Genesis all agree with this statement, which is why they are auctioning off the prime seats for both UK gigs on Ticketmaster (with a starting price of £80 per ticket). Does this count as touting? Is it OK for a group of multi-multi-millionaire musicians to auction tickets but not OK for an MSE member to do the same? Any hypocrisy going on here do you think?0 -

I agree with the supply and demand, nobody complains about property developers, nobody complains about car salesmen (much), nobody complains about shopkeepers. They all buy stuff at low prices and flog them on at an increased price, mostly set at supply and demand prices.
TBH if it wasn't for ebay I would never have seen some the concerts i went to and not always paying over the odds for tickets. I have even sold some myself, including a front row ticket to the WWE for half price on buy it now.
I have even posted pre sale tickets and unless MSE say not to then I will gladly post links when I get them.

I'm no fan of Ticketmaster. I think they have something close to a monopoly, their 'admin' and 'convenience' charges are outrageous, their customer service is no great shakes and they do really asinine things like 'premium ticket auctions' (admittedly, only for two seats per row, but still I don't much care for it).
But unlike some, I'm able to see that the band members of Genesis are not personally responsible for the actions of Ticketmaster.
So, in answer to your question - no, I don't see hypocrisy from 'a group of multi-multi-millionaires', actually. Not that the amount of money someone has in their bank account should somehow put them under a different moral obligation to the rest of us, mind you.Everyone needs something to believe in.

And as consumers, we have a lot of protection against blatant profiteering, such as:- The market model itself
- Regulations in many markets
- Growing consumer empowerment and better information
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of free market economics. But only if the consumer has some protection. And ticket-touting is not an example of a perfect market, as the supply (of tickets) is restricted and controlled by the tout.greytroot wrote:

If it makes you sleep better to believe that, then I envy you.
Blimey, it's all getting a bit deep here. As with the OP, I will agree to disagree with you. It's beer o'clock, after all.....Everyone needs something to believe in.
