Sky Broadband help

Hi all,

Ive ordered sky broadband and it has now come to my attention that i do not have an Ethernet connection on the back of my PC and it is not Wireless, if i buy one of these http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6768243.htm
will i not need to fit a Ethernet adaptor in my PC or will i still need to :confused::confused:

  • you could buy one of these and set everything up over the wireless connections but it is a much better idea to have the ethernet for backup purposes at least amounf other reasons)

    If your modem will be near your pc anyway the ethernet connection will be a lot more stable and secure.

    if you take a look here you will see that ethernet adaptors are very cheap these days.

    Far better to get yourself a Network Interface Card like this for a fiver or less! Avoid using USB for BB connectivity unless absolutely necessary.

    As a complete novice are these things easy to fit into a PC??

  • yes very easy - open up the case and slot in a spare PCI slot and attach with one screw

    So there is no software to install so its plug and play effectivly, if thats the case then i should be able to do it.

  • under windows xp it will probably install automatically - you may be asked to insert a driver CD but that will be supplied if necessary.

    All NICs are slightly different in that respect.
