Vacuum cleaner belts - is there a cheap MSE alternative?

The belt on my Zanussi hoover has snapped and can I get a replacement part from the shop I bought it in? No!

Had a quick google for the part and looks like they're about £3 a pop.

Is there a diy/MSE alternative to shelling out for what is basically a large rubber band?

£3? And you want it cheaper than that? Struth
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

No!!! It's not the cost really. Just want a possible way to tide me over for the mo so that I can finish my housewifely chores!
