    I'd gathered that!

Jeez - you are hard work!

Tell the person that you want the reference from that you need a reference for some weekend work.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

What you could be doing is negotiating higher rates for the stuff you can do quicker than others,

or get more work off them for more money,

or look at doing the harder stuff that pays more.

Does your contract require you to be doing the work or are you just providing a service?

I did answer your question, so you obviously didn't gather that.

The client asks for the reference, so even if I have the reference, they would find it strange that it comes from me and might even think I have made it up. If the client goes directly to the other employer they receive it from their email address, company address etc

I have tried to negotiate a higher rate, but they pay a set rate for this role

I am over qualified and took the role in the recession when there wasn't any other options

As my profession is normally Mon-Fri, they wouldn't offer more work as I would be caught in the catch, when are you going to do the extra work? - if I then said I was getting the work done in half the time they would simply give me more, but not any further pay

I have considered doing the more senior work and that is an option. That work is harder to come by as there are less managers than employees and often is chicken and egg with needing experience.

Yes, the second person asks the first one for the reference.

    What's the problem with that?

Client A will know it's not just wkd work when client B asks as Client B's work (and Client A's) is not normally done at the wkds

So, you aren't actually doing it at the weekends then? So you are lying about it being weekend and evening work?

    Interesting....

The work can be done on the wkds and evenings, its just traditionally a 9-5 Mon-Fri role. So in answer to your question (I am glad it was a question rather than a statement, as I could have taekn offence at being called a liar), I wasn't lying in the slightest.

    That's my point!

If asked, you simply say that you are doing it on the weekends.

    So what if it's tradition?
