Pound Shops Vs Xmas

Has anyone found any nice bits and pieces in their local pound shop that could be used for Christmas presents?

Mine [Just your local run of the mill one, it's not got a special name - just 'the pound shop'] has a load of Little Britain stuff in at the moment, no copies - proper items. My brother loves it so i've got him a cup that plays catchphrases from the show, along with talking figure heads and a rectangular thing that you press different buttons for and it plays different catch phrases.

On a side note, does anyone have a Poundland? I'm after visiting my nearest one in Hull to have a prod around the Christmas stock, but I don't want to go all that way to be disappointed ;) Does anyone... hopefully someone from Hull ... have any tales about their stuff?

Thank you :D

  • Not from Hull but over the bridge in Scunny - our poundland is okay, got some quite nice bits of christmas decs etc. As with any pound/bargain shop its a bit hit and miss though, i wouldn't make a special trip.

I'm from Barton. Whenever I am in Hull or Scunthorpe I usually call in at pound shops and Home Bargains. To get the best buys I think you need to be able to call in probably daily!!! A bit like Heron really!!! Thats a bargain shop isnt it!!

Went to Poundland in Liverpool last week and was very impressed.
    Spotted
    Spiderman 2 video
Various other decent romantic videos (In work and can't think of titles.)
Stocking filla toys/jigsaws for the kids
    James Patterson hardback book
    Various autobiographies
Can't think what else but I was pleasantly surprised.

  • Nipped into the Pound shop while in Edinburgh this past weekend (it's in the shopping centre where John Lewis is at the end of Princes Street). They had loads of Christmas stuff and some items which could be used for the baskets everyone seems to be doing this year. They had cane baskets with blue teddy bear material (but this could be taken off) and also wire fruit bowls which would look good with bath stuff in. Lots of fancy paper/card bags and of course Christmas decorations. Some nice cushion covers too - wish I'd bought some now!
  • Spent a fair bit in my local poundland and 99p shop, we found the 99p shop to have much better stuff! I have done most of my shopping for Christmas in there - as well as wilko. I go for the stuff that I think doesn't scream out "poundshop" plus I've prettied everything up by making hampers of them!

Ooooh, Scunthorpe might be a bit better to travel to, thank you!

I'd like to go to Gainsborough, Lincoln, Louth and Hull before Christmas for general shopping, money allowing :) [I'm from Grimsby :)]

I'm very taken with a lot of things on the poundland website which got me interested in going to Hull as it said that that was the nearest, but I'd hate to be disapointed. I wish they did online shopping
  • I love poundshops!! We have a two pound store, one pound store and 99p store in Gloucester!

I have made some great hampers for christmas from various bits and bobs from them.

I also got the entire BBC series of Pride & Predjudice and Mansfield Park on video from the pound store.

From the 99p store they had packs of the dummies that my kiddies use that I had paid 3 quid for in sainsburys!!
