Britax First Plus Car Seat help

Hi all

I am thinking of getting a Britax First Plus car seat, they say it can be used from birth up until 4 years old / 18 kgs.

Is a 4 year old really only going to weigh 18 kgs? Or am I better off getting something from birth to 9/12months then get one of the ones designed from 9months - 4 years old?

I dont really want suggestions of makes and brands as I have had so many different ones suggested, just whether many babies/children weigh 18kgs at 4 y.o

Thanks

I don't call myself an expert but my DD2 is five in a few weeks and she currently weighs about 19kg but she is very tall for her age (in age 6-7 clothes just to get the height), most children at school with her are smaller so I imagine that most weight 18kg or less at four.

  • Thank you very much, it helps alot. I wasnt sure that when they say from birth to 18kgs and put 4 years in brackets is just a bit of a marketing ploy to get people to buy it even though it probably wont last until 4 y.o

It really depends on what you want out of the infant stage of the car seat - i.e. do you want to easily move between cars, use it as part of a travel system etc? If the answer to those questions is yes, you're probably best off with an infant carrier (group 0/0+). If not, go for the group 0+ and 1 (birth to 4yr).

Can't comment on weights though I'm afraid
  • We are getting a 0+ which can be easily manouvered out of my OH's car, but the First Plus is to stay put in my car for use in my car and future permanent use when the other one is no longer required.

You will ultimately need to buy three car seats:

    - A rear facing seat for the first year
    - A front facing seat up until around age 4
    - A booster seat up until age 12

onlyroz I think you will find the Britax First Class Plus is able to be used rearward facing for the first year and then turned round for use afterwards. The only thing I would say is that as I said before my DD2 is very tall for her age and she was too tall for this type of seat before she was four anyway.
