Novell GroupWise Email

Is anyone familiar with this email system?
I am trying to find a way to install an email program that will allow me to download my work emails onto it, in the morning, before I get on my commuting train, and then I can catch up with everything while the train whistles through counties at speed.
My IT manager mentioned that GroupWise would not allow Email programs like Outlook and such like, but I am wondering if theexperts on this forum might have an answer.

Sound like a lazy IT man to me. Where there is a will there is a way.

This Wiki lists several solutions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novell_GroupWise

I did stumble upon this article already, but I could not find a solution from these pages. I know that handheld devices like the blackberry and iphone have apps which allow regular updates/downloads, and surely theremust be a way that will work with a laptop.

Are you using GroupWise at work? If so, why don't you just download and install the GroupWise client on your laptop? GroupWise supports a feature called "Hit the road" which will download your email and allow you to work offline and once you reconnect, any changes will be synchronised. Once you have the GroupWise client installed you can select "tools" and then "hit the road" this will launch a wizard allowing you to configure a remote mailbox on your local machine.

The GroupWise client can be downloaded from: http://download.novell.com/patch/finder/#familyId=114&productId=&dateRange=&startDate=&endDate=&priority=&distribution=&architecture=&keywords=
I would recommend finding out what version is running on the backend server and download the applicable client version.

I shall quote this to my IT manager, and see what he can do. I need to point out that the laptop will be my personal one, and not a work one, and any upload will be done from the remote access via mailgate. I hope I am making sense.

I though of another way to tackle this and not add to the IT manager's workload.
I could set up automatic forward to a hotmail account, and set up hotmail on an email program like thunderbird.
    Could this work?
And is Windows Live Mail any similar to Thunderbird?
