Well, Lyco list some Megaman candle bulbs, 7W at 90 x 37mm. So short, but expensive at £7.49, and dim.

I picked up some Ring spirals, 9W and 85 x 30mm in a SES fitting. They are the best I've seen but when I went back (to Focus) they had sold out and I can't find any more stocks of them anywhere.
  • Not quite as short as the 90mm you wanted and not candle, but take a look at the Micro Helix range at http://www.lightbulbs-direct.com/products_by_category.asp?ProdID=145
  • i need candle shapes, all other will look bad. i cant belive there are no same size energy saver lights.

any other suggestions would be useful.

    thanks
  • I've been looking for these for ages so I am also hoping someone may have found out where to get them>
  • The spiral ones are the nicest and most compact I've seen.

I gave up looking for candle bulb sized energy saving candle bulbs and went for spirals instead.
  • omg i thought i was the only person who had noticed this. i want 3 energy saving candle bulbs to fit a light fitting. preferable equiv to 40w each.

But the only bulbs ive seen are hideous bulbs about twice the size.
Does any company do bulbs of similaur size to a candle bulb?????!
  • They do seem better than they used to be, but you still have to compromise between size (and shape) and brightness.

The candle shaped bulbs have an outer plastic or glass bulb over the fluorescent tube, which makes them neater but gives less space for the tube. The tube needs to be a certain length to be bright enough, making it thinner or maybe a spiral can save space, but the very compact bulbs (similar size to normal candle bulbs) do not have the space for much tube so are not very bright.
Also part of the space is taken up by the electronic driver circuit for the tube. This can be a considerable portion of a candle bulb, again leaving less for the tube.

There is not much that can be done apart from accepting the appearance of spiral or oversized bulbs or changing the light fitting to one which conceals the bulbs (eg. large upturned shades) or uses a single full sized bulb.
