Rules governing doorstep charity collectors

As I live alone, I just never answer the door unless I'm expecting someone. We seem to be getting a few more people knocking lately, must be the light nights bringing them out. I don't care if they can see my TV on or hear my dog, I'm not answering!0

I'm the same....i live with my 3 kids and we just don't bother answering the door....anyone that knows us comes to our side door....if someone bangs on my front door then i know its a salesman x0

When I lived in South-east London I was plagued several times a week by energy salesmen and god-botherers, even someone handing over a magazine and then trying to charge me for it. I had to stick a note on the door which reduced some cold-callers but then I just stopped answering the door unless I was expecting a visitor.
In my current city, at my last address, I was visited on a weekly basis by a variety of cold callers - lots of tradesmen offering gardening & roofing services, salesmen selling fish and bread, umpteen chuggers, the 'free mattress' in the back of the van scam and the odd Mormon.
I moved 10 minutes away 7 months ago and the number of cold-callers have simply dropped off a cliff - perhaps a couple of charity collectors and two polite political canvassers in all that time. It's just a deadzone for cold-callers, no idea why.0 -
We get the usual Anglian Windows or people offering conservatories. I pointed out we had one and the guy shrugged and said "well you might want another".. what???? :rotfl:
Also I either get "is your Mum/Dad home?" (Im 28) OR the opposite and they think I own the house. Cant win, dunno if I look old or young :rotfl:0 -
I hate door chuggers so much that I actively AVOID donating to any charity that harasses me on my doorstep!
If people want to donate, they will seek out their chosen charity and donate.
There is absolutely NO NEED to go banging on people's doors.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I have a sign on my doorbell which says 'If you don't know the names go away'.. Maybe that's why the TV investigator left his note on the doorstep, or at least that's where I found it.. Stupid really as I was in, possibly out the back, but within hearing distance.
Not that I would have engaged in conversation with them, of course. :-)
Not having or watching TV allows me that enjoyment.0
