Call from strange number

My home phone rang tonight...when I answered it went to a dial tone.
I tried 1471 which revealed the number as 0090363. Surely this is too
short for a number...it doesn't even seem to be a known country.
Anybody any idea where it originated?

  • Did you send a text message using your landline? I know some phones can do that - if you did perhaps this is a reply?

No, I didn't (and can't) send a text message from landline phone. I have
received them in the past from people I know who have sent them
accidentally instead of to my mobile but they were 'read out' by an
    automatic 'robot type' voice.

The international country dialling code 90 is Turkey. However, there doesn't appear to be an area code 363, so it may have come from anywhere and someone has spoofed the CLI.

See this page on Turk Telekom's website showing area codes in Turkey.
  • I missed that code (Turkey). Didn't see it in my list.
    But it does say

    Your Access Code + 90 + Area code + Subscriber’s number
    (AC) + 90 + (3 Digit) + (7 Digit)

So 0090363 isn't enough numbers anyway.
    It's happened again today.....same number.....weird.

Caller Display should never be relied upon.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)

The OP used 1471 not caller display. ;)

But the number that appears on caller display is the same one as is given on 1471, hence they both should not be relied upon. It's a case that they can be spoofed.
  • I have voipcheap.com, my outgoing calls show caller id of 11191833

Free voip services such as voipcheap do no generally have an incoming number so caller id is of little use. More sophisticated VoIP suppliers will give you a UK phone number and caller id can then be sent...
  • I got the same call about 20 minutes ago except it was 090363..

I did not answer the call and the answer machine kicked in, before the outgoing message was completed the call was terminated.

Looks like one of these weird call centres either telling you that "you have been specially selected" or else it's some kind of premium rate call scam.

In any event, my advice is always check caller display and if it is this or a similar number...........don't answer it.
