PC not waking up

I got a new PC recently and everytime i put it to sleep it is a pain to wake it back up! It doesnt respond to the keyboard or moving the mouse, pressing/holding the power button does nothing.

However if you flick the off switch on the back of the PSU off then on it will come back on with the message "windows resuming"

Any ideas how to fix this?
:o

Check the power option settings ... it sounds like it is going into hibernation rather than standby. Disable anything that refers to "hibernate"

Is it usually drivers for any particular piece of software, or will i need to check everything to make sure they are up to date?
    Thanks :)

yes make sure they're all up to date, but start with the mobo/chipset drivers..

and drivers are for hardware ;)

No need to go to the switch at the back, a quick touch of the switch on the front will do the same.
Haven't figured it out, but my recent Windows 7 / 64 bit desktop does the same. The "sleep" mode is a real pain in the b*m, as it seems irregular, and works when it likes. Another time, it starts up again, and just sits there "restoring" with Windows frozen and inoperable and the spinning circle displaying.
Can also say, that if you hold the power switch down, to force a shutdown from this position, then when you turn the PC back on again, it sometimes comes up with "Windows restoring" as if it's coming out of sleep mode. Erratic responses to the same situation.
These days I'm more likely to turn off, and turn back on again next time, rather than use "sleep" mode.

    Bloody Microsoft again!

Has anyone noticed erratic boot times as well, with Windows 7 / 64 bit?
On one occasion it is very fast, and the next it takes it takes some time, all without any changes to the computer.

Have just tried something, and it worked perfectly. (Before I popped out to the postbox) Before I went into sleep mode, I "logged off", and it restarted perfectly with a quick touch of the on/off button. Have to "log on" again though, but that's no hardship.

Holding your power button down doesn't shut down your computer? You do hold it 2 or 3 seconds don't you? I assume you do, so the only thing I can think of is that your Motherboard doesn't recognise this operation. Thought that had been in operation for some time now. Has the builder of your PC missed off a connection?
