Where to find private rentals?

Where is the best place to look for private rentals in London?

I've tried gumtree and loot without much success, are there any other websites? Are local papers still worth looking in?

    Local papers definitely.

    Also try newsagent's windows.

Would like to know the answer to this one as well ;) - Been looking for a few months. Gumtree has turned up about 3 or 4 properties with actual potential (I'm looking every day), the majority of adverts are the same agency adverts every day though. Tried the local newspaper and there was a grand total of about 4 adverts for rentals and they weren't particularly any better than anything online. We do have a relatively limited budget for the area (surrey), but it's a bit frustrating seeing huge places available in other areas for the price of a studio flat in this area.
  • Thanks for the replies.

I'll try newsagents windows, that's a great tip, didn't realise people still did that.

It seems spareroom only has houseshares, which isn't what I am looking for I'm afraid.

It looks like I'll have to use letting agents, which doesn't seem ideal as I have a cat.
