How to get a pearl unstuck from a gold necklace ?

Hi,

I am not sure where to post this so thought the DIY might be a start !

I have a necklace that has a Pearl on it. I want to get the Pearl off so that I can put a new one on. Does anyone know if I soak it in Acetone it will work ? Will acetone damaged 14K gold ?

Please move this if I am in the wrong place.

Thanks in Advance

Is the pearl actually stuck on or has it got claws? If claws then you may be able to gently remove it, but if it's 'glued' don't soak it in anything - real pearls are quite fragile and you'll ruin it. (I'm assuming it's a real pearl; rub it gently on your teeth and if it feels a bit rough it's real)

Yes it is stuck on. Yes it is real but it has been around my neck for several years and it has worn flat on the side against my skin.

I have another that my OH picked out of an oyster that I want to replace it with. I am not worried about damaging the pearl but don't want to damage the gold.

How did you know about it being rough to your teeth ! It does by the way.

I would take it to a jewellers and get them to do it.
