Yes, quite easily, and cheaper too. There have been other netbook threads this week you might have checked first though before making a new thread.

Some inexpensive open box returns from Argos clearance, all with a 12 month warranty here. I've used it myself, great service and no problems.

Wow! That's a lot of money to spend just to access your bank account! Can't you use phone banking?

I know Internet banking is popular, but I wouldn't risk it given the huge number of attack vectors present, particularly on Windows-based machines.

It's no more risky than anything else when used properly. It's people who don't know what they're doing or how things work that cause the problems and contribute to the cycle.

Well... I would have thought that it's more risky than banking in person, just to pick one example.

Phone banking lacks inherent security, but a landline is unlikely to be accessible to unauthorised parties, and the exchange is unlikely to route your call to a criminal gang posing as your bank.

Exactly - but most people don't know what they're doing. I've read a huge number of threads on forums where people have unwittingly installed trojans, or use WEP on their router. And how many people understand the risks of using wireless networks outside of their control? If I asked the average online-banker whether their router responded to unsolicited ICMP traffic or whether they had UPNP enabled... would they know?

That depends where you live. For me, living in a fairly rough city, it's probably safer for me to use online banking at work where there's pretty much the best security in place compared to going into the city centre where police are patrolling most hours of the day because crime is so high.

Yeah, exactly why I said it's not risky if you know what you're doing.

I've never really thought about using online banking. I can phone my bank for a balance or to see if a debit/credit has been made (although I rarely do). And I can make payments via credit card or direct debit. At the end of the month I get a statement I can skim through to ensure that everything is in order.

So... how does online banking help? Is it just easier/quicker to get the information that I phone up for?

Is your bank open 24/7 with real people giving you the info? Mine is as it happens but internet banking is better for me and free to use (no call charges)

But... what info?! I can call up any time and use an automated service to get my balance and recent credits/debits.

And I can make payments using debit/credit cards or by writing out direct debit mandates (or cheques!) 24 hours a day.

I genuinely can't understand what else I would want my bank to do. :undecided

Fair enough if it works for you;)

OP a netbook will be fine if you are just surfing the net
