Help - Fitness First want money when I'm already paying!

Ok, so I had a contract at my local Fitness First which was taken out over the phone by my friend (manager who no longer works there) and I signed NOTHING - she literally took my details and put it through.

Then I ask a London branch if it'll be ok if I cancel my old contract and start a new (and more expensive one) enabling me to go anywhere. They say yes but I'll have to sort it out with my original branch. So I send a letter in and cancel the direct debit and start a new one which pays for access to any blue club in the country.

Just received a phone call from 'cars' who are apparently a debt agency saying I need to pay up £300 or expect a visit from the bailiffs...

Help!?
