Advice for reducing agency fees

Hello - This is my first post, so please be gentle.
I'm currently looking at moving into a rented property, however the agency is trying to get an unholy amount of fees for all kind of things... Referencing £170 per person, Inventory £150, comes out at over £500 once everything is taken into account.
I've been living in rental properties for the past 10 years, and have never seen anything this high.
So here is my plan... It is quite clear who the landlord of the property is, so is it possible to go to another local letting agent and tell them that we can get them tennents for a property if they waive/reduced the fees etc... all they need to do is contact the landlord.
Is this a sensible and/or legal plan? If not what are my alternatives?
