Hi,

Does anyone think there is a market out there for procurement consultancy in small business?

Speaking as the owner of a small business, what does a procurement consultant do, what would you charge and how would it benefit a small business?

Thank you for your response, I guess procurement consultant maybe a too stronger term.

I see the following items as core services.
    • Warehouse & logistics advice
    • Review of all bought in costs to see where costs can be reduced
    • Formulation of contract terms and conditions (even negotiation on your behalf)
    • Responding to tenders on your behalf

Basically the market salary for someone is good at procurment would start at circa £30K, SME's wouldnt have the turnover to support that. However, SME's may want to go for local council contract of which they need to put together a professional tender response. SME's need contract terms to protect thier business and ensure items arrive on time to budget.

I really see myself offering adivce on a call off basis, rates would be flexible depending upon the activity. And could even be free, I would then make my fee based on spliting the cost saving with you.

I do feel SME's loose out by not having robust purchasing procedures and this waste of money can easily be prevented.

    Any thoughts?

Seems a good idea - might be tough to market it (I'm guessing a lot of small business may be run by someone that thinks they cannot afford the service or don't need it) but suppose thats the same with all things.

Good luck with it, hope it works for you
