Current PV panel prices

thenudeone, get them round for a quote but it does sound like a foot in the door type of flyer. That would have had to be a "solar farm job" cancelled, with so many panels they can sell at that price.
The nationals, you get a "sales rep" not an installer to quote, he`s working on a "commission only basis" been on a two day training course so now he`s an expert in PV (not). People surely you are better off getting a local installer round who not only gives the sales pitch but turns up to install it as well, someone who will design the system to your needs. Someone totally independent of any "brand" and can offer you a bespoke package and not a "one size fits all " deal. They are out there, a glossy website is not the way to buy something for your house.0 -
I would suggest getting as many quotes as you can from a cross section of installers (local, national etc) and choose the one who you feel most comfortable with on both price and technical expertise.0

Further to earlier posts, bear in mind that modern roofs are designed to take the weight of your tiles and a snow load.
Fixing 300 - 400 kg on top of that (with the obvious resulting wind loading of a stand-off system) and fixing coach bolts through extremely slim trusses, will in many cases require a structural engineers report to ascertain if it is feasible or how to install the anchors safely without fracturing trusses.
A double glazing salesman saying "that'll be fine mate", is not the same thing. (which you will discover when your roof falls off or you try to sell your house).
Bear in mind that you are making a structural change to your house, and that the implications could be very serious indeed if you don't get it right.Nothing is foolproof, as fools are so ingenious!0 -

Can I ask the best way to find out who my local installers would be and how can I check that they are accredited (if thats the right term) for the installation so we would get the FiTs?Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death.

MCS approved Installer link ..... http://www.microgenerationcertification.org/mcs-consumer/installer-search.php
If you use the postcode & map option you'll find the local ones, if you don't use the map option I believe the list should be all of the installers which will operate in your area.

I've already signed up with another firm otherwise I would have taken this a step further and got them round. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

I would be very surprised if a domestic installation will add a 4000 kg load to your roof especially as a single panel only weighs about 20 kg.0 -
Finally after so much reading and quotes I have placed my order for schuco 3.995 system for my roof. My installer has asked me if I want to get 3.995kw Sanyo hybrid panels for £1000 more. Do you guys think that it's worth spending £1000 more on sanyo hybrid. he says that because they are hybrid they work better in both low and bright light. I don't know how much of that is true but somebody experienced here might be able to help me out. Thanks0
