car insurance advice

I found a GREAT quote from aviva, however I have some questions, here are the details:
£350 excess gives me car insurance at £277
£250
£287
£150
£294
Now, it says underneath, because I am under 25, an extra £200 excess will have to be paid for accident damage.
Bearing in mind my car is only worth £495, should I go for the extra tenner just to make my excess only £150? Or should I just go for the cheaper quote (would go for £250 excess not the £350 though)?
Also I turn 25 in August so on my birthday would this extra £200 be removed?
Thanks!

Given the value of the vehicle it's likely that it would be written off as a result of ANY claim. So in that respect the higher excess seems attractive on the basis that you don't need to use the insurance. You should, however, consider the fact that it's likely your excess will need to be paid in the event of ANY claim for accidental damage.
The saving seems like a false economy to me.
The compulsory excess won't apply after your 25th birthday.0 -
Your car is worth £495
So the most any insurance payout would be is £345 later in the year, or £145 now.
Would you seriously consider making a claim and losing two years ncd for that much, or would you quietly sweep the car into the gutter and walk home?
I'd take the cheapest one, and never make a claim.0 -
What if you have to claim?0

Ah thank you for that. If someone else crashed into me though, and it was my fault, would I not have to pay my excess out to them? Sorry I'm not very good with the ins and outs of this!0

No, you claim all the losses of the third party. If they drive off, and you can't find out who they were, it would probably be more cost effective to take the loss of the car, buy another £500 runaround, and keep your ncd intact. The accident would load your premium, but not as badly as the loss of ncd.0

Ah ok thank you. Yes I have 4 years NCD so I would aim to keep that, especially as car is worth basically nothing lol! Thanks x0

If kitty was at fault she can't claim losses off the other party surely?
Regardless of blame and in the event of a claim you only pay your excess if claiming for damage to your car.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

Quite right.
"If someone else crashed into me though, and it was my fault,"
Misread the second bit.
If it is the op's fault, they still don't pay the excess, unless they claim for their own car.
If it isn't the op's fault, what I said earlier.0
