We are due to choose a new car at the end of this month & usually pick up in 2 months time. The one we like has an adavnce payment of £349.
Do we pay this when we choose it or when we pick it up.

When the car is ready and you go to pick it up.

Thank you, at least this gives us a couple more months to save it.

Don't forget if you have already got a motability car, and have not made a claim on your insurance you will get a good condition bonus. I got my new car in Oct 2010, and my old car had a few scratches and dents, nothing major, and got a cheque for £250 about a week later. Make sure the car is smelling fresh, no smoke or pets and cleanish, just ok do not worry about a full valet, and it is inspected by your dealer and they will be as kind as they can in my experience. If your new car is not available, you will be allowed to keep your old one till new one is ready to collect.
Also have a look around your local dealerships at the deals, I found a dealer that had a special on which cut my advance payment by £300, as they offered a deal in the local paper.
