tax disc late

I'm hoping someone in here can help. My fiance renewed his car tax on time, but 2 weeks later they've failed to send out the tax disc. They're now saying that it will take another 5 working days to have one delivered and if he drives in that time it will be a police offence subject to a £1000 fine. This isn't fair, since he's done everything right and its their mistake but they don't care. Is there anything we can do or do we just have to suck it up? We live in a semi rural area with awful public transport and I can't drove so it's a bit of a problem getting anywhere.

No help to you now, but use the Post Office in future, they give you the tax disc in your hand.0

yes he COULD be fined, when this happened to me I got DVLA to email me that they were sending a duplicate disc, and printed that out and kept that along with the original printout in the car.
you would have to be very unlucky for a copper to book you with that documentation(but yes a risk)
However what you should not do is to park anywhere that a traffic warden can issue a ticketI

The offence is "failure to display ...", I'm afraid. "Fair" and "motorist" are words you rarely see in the same sentence these days. As above, yet another reason for using your local Post Office. Use it or lose it. And for the future, in case next year's reminder mysteriously isn't delivered or is delivered late, I set up a "Tart Alert" on here to be sent a text message and/or e-mail reminder 6 weeks beforehand. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.
