Best bank account for working in Europe

My daughter (18 years old, first 'proper' bank account) will be working in France for a year and then working in Germany for another. What is the best bank account for her to open? She will be paid in Euros and will need to withdraw in Euros. She was advised to open an HSBC Advance account (free withdrawals abroad) but they have declined her (presumably because she has no credit history?). Any advice anyone?

Try Citibank. Their UK-based euro account is one of the best around. Failing that, open an account locally in France upon arrival. The only silly charges you have to put up with from French banks are card-related, e.g. €40/year for a simple debit card and €8 to change your PIN. German banks on the other hand charge monthly maintenance fees but have better customer service and much better internet banking than French banks.0
