A friend needs a little advice. She has extended warrenty on her Mini one and has just been informed the o2 sensor needs replacing.

Should this be done under warrenty?

Depends on the warranty, Most will exclude anything that wears and does not cover electrical items.

So basically covers not a lot. Bit of paper for the shredder or pet bedding, About its only use.

Read the terms & conditions and the small print.

  • what year is it? how many miles. short trips, long trips, regular use?

not usually covered by a parts and labour warrenty, its a wear and tear item.

i guess the engine management is on, most likley the car IS OVER FUELLING as the o2 sensor is down or clogged, dont run it too much as too much fuel can cause it to get into the oil and do whats called a bore wash in where by the fuel will strip the oil from the piston cylinders bores causing piston ring damage and possible crank bearing damage, this part needs to be replaced sooner the better.
