Scottish Power Online system problems

Are you having problems with the Scottish Power online system?
8 weeks ago i received an email asking for meter readings. This was 8 weeks early but i did as requested only to find i could not enter the readings. I queried this and was told to ignore the request, they were having some problems. They actually logged it as a complaint.
OK but 8 weeks later and it is time for my 3 month reading. I entered the readings this week and got an email back saying i had not entered the readings!
I emailed support and they admit to having a problem and to submit the readings by email!
For a major supplier to have a IT problems that are not fixed after 8 weeks is not acceptable in my opinion. I feel i have been brushed off.
Am i one of a handfull of unlucky customers or do Scottish Power have a major problem?

Entered my reading a couple of days ago and didn't seem to have any problems.
  • I've had a very similar run-in with Scottish Power. And this evening I learned their current explanation for screwing up so many on-line account users.

Seems it goes back to the VAT change from 17.5 to 20%, they tell me! Although 5% still applies to domestic users, everything got mixed up in their system for at least some of us, making it impossible to enter meter readings. And SP didn't send out reminder emails either. (Funny that a large corporation with a horde of accountants on the books can't manage a VAT change which small businesses like mine handle without difficulty).

At the end of February I received a standard letter, dated (but not posted) 19 Feb claiming (falsely) that they'd tried to email me unsuccessfully and that I'd then ignored a letter reminder, so I was back on basic tariff!

In response to an email of complaint, I was sent an apology of sorts and a new password. I tried to log on. The password was invalid! I emailed my complaint and received another password.

Same day I had a letter from Siemens, who SP have to do their normal meter readings, telling me I was overdue (we pay monthly by DD) and must now give them my readings! I called Siemens to explain my situation and to ask what was going on. And I quickly learned that they had a large and rapidly growing volume of identical complaints from SP online users, causing them plenty of grief. The lady from Siemens did not deny that SP were in a mess.

And then I got an email demand from SP that I provide an immediate meter reading. So I wrote back to tell them of my conversation with Siemens and explain that, if they wanted my business, they needed to treat me competently and politely, and not make false accusations arising from their own defective IT systems and then ignore my polite complaints.

Soon after, with the latest password I successfully logged in. And I entered my meter readings. When I clicked "Submit", they were apparently accepted, so I logged out. Minutes later came another SP email telling me I'd visited their site but had failed to enter my readings!

Incredible, isn't it? Idiots, aren't they?

This time (2 hours ago) I rang the only findable number, waited as it went through the list 3x and a human answered. Got passed to another decent person, who soon accepted that it was an utter mess. I now have his written apology (another one!). Apparently because they'd still got me down as a defaulter (my DDs were still being charged!), I was barred from making on-line entries!! Once I'd regained my composure after this revelation, I gave the guy my meter readings and asked if he thought SP would refund my estimated £150 costs in trying to help them sort ouot their own woeful inefficiencies. He though not.

Now, having just read your message above, I've emailed back to SP demanding their confirmation that they have not "adjusted" my tariff to their financial advantage.

Sorry such a long post. It is such a mighty cockup at SP that I think it all needs saying. But how do you get the message to somewhere where it really hurts enough to wake them all up? Will this do here?

    Cheers -
    Carl
  • Hi, Im having problems with Scottishpower online meter readings. They sent me an email to say my meter readings are due and gave me the link but when you click on it, it just says the page cannot be found. "HTTP 404 file not found". I have tried phoning it through with the number they provide but when I enter my account number they say they are having a problem and hang up. Has anyone else got the same problem?:(

Go to Google and type in the words 'Scottish Power,' followed by just about any expletive you can think of and you will be presented with numerous pages of complaints and adverse comments made by dissatisfied customers.

Your problem with SP's online page has been ongoing for some time. I had the same trouble a few weeks ago. After many unsuccessful attempts to enter meter readings, I sent them via email and telephone - only to receive an estimated bill, which naturally, was too high. They had also put me on the wrong tariff.

    I have since changed supplier.
