i cant help thinking situations like the one i found myself in knocked up premiums for a lot of reasons

i was involved in a non fault accident 3 years ago, bumper cracked in a semi-circle shape, advised not to drive the car incase the suspension has been damaged- car that hit me was a banger and the bonnet/bumper etc were a mess.

insurers get involved, accident happened on a sunday so an out of hours company take the call and forward the details to the insurer for me to call the insurer the next day. insurers take the details, and contact somewhere to take the car on, then there is the hire car, brand new astra (matching what i had in terms of size), repair runs over easter bank holiday (ouch, expensive), i get my car back after 2 weeks. now the 3rd party hasnt informed his insurer, they phone him, write to him, nothing. after a few months a ''recovery'' company get in touch with him and contact me to inform me, then 2 weeks later they contact me to say its sorted, then the insurers contact me to tell me its all sorted too
Who remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?

I can assure you the police are doing nothing about these type of crash/damage scams.

These crimes are to time consuming to investigate and the offenders are mainly known criminals or illegal imigrants. So put in the too hard to do box.

Until the police start taking these offences seriously our premiums will keep going up and the offenders will make a mint.

I can also state that this policy is made by senior officers, not the actual workforce, so don't blame the bobby on the street, they would love to arrest the offenders.

The police force don't have enough officers to deal with the crimes they have now, let alone insurance fraud ... which is a shame because people are making millions from it as it's such an easy crime to commit and get away with

That's true. And, even if they don't get paid out for their claims, and just disappear, there is a huge cost to the insurers just for investigating. And if they DO get to court, and the insurers are successful in defeating the claim, then it's not that easy to recover costs fom the scammers - names change, properties change hands, people just disappear.

Indeed, its not a level playing field. Often they'll just pay out a dodgy claim because its cheaper than investigating it. The fraudster scum can disappear - a large insurance company cannot.
