I have a 207. When i turn the steering wheel to the left it makes a loud creaking noise which sounds like it is coming from the front passenger sideregion. It only happens at low speeds when parking for example. In addittion to this there is a loud whirring noise when i break. This is intermittant however. Does anybody know what this could be?
Thanks,
Rhian.

If it's only when steering in a particular side and only at low speeds, then it could be the suspension spring coil snapped/ split/ broke in it's cradle. It is moving around in it's cradle as the wheel is being turned. Just a possibility however this would not necessarily be obvious during breaking but more when steering while stationary or low speeds.

Hi, the whirring noise when breaking could be worn pads/disks etc; get it checked asap. The creaking noise could very well be the u j (universal joint).I've had a few Peugeots over the years and they can be prone to this. Its just wear & tear. Usually when one goes its best to get both replaced at the same time if you can. I'd advise you to get it checked out as soon as you can as it could seize up in time.0 -

u j (universal joint) ive never heared of a UJ before on a car.
CV (constant velocity joint) joint is what you refure to and that would make a grinding clunking noise turning a courner at any speed.
whirring on braking can be but not limited to wheel bearings.
CV joints are not universal, they fit that make car and driveshaft.
a UJ ive never heared of, nothing is never really universal on a vehicle.

The car should be under warranty still? Ship it off to mr p's garage and get him to look at it (mind you... most of the people there are probably quite useless!) Hope it gets fixed though0

If the car is under warranty get it into your local dealer for the steering to be checked, it's highly likely that yours isn't the first they'd have seen for this problem. The dealers have support from the manufacturer in the form of technical updates, these aren't recalls but are common complaints with specific remedies that have been devised at the manufacturers technical centre. Brakes whirring..... difficult to comment as it comes and goes. Assuming it is only on application of the brakes, does it vary according to temperature? road conditions? Rear drum brakes are prone to a build up of dust and may need cleaning out, air deflectors for the brakes or the disc back plate could be distorted? Surface corrosion on brake discs building up overnight & being cleared off by the pads? Get it checked by a professional and sorted before your MOT!0
